Improve energy, strength, self-esteem and motivation
How Can Exercise Benefit You?
After reviewing the scientific evidence, the American Cancer Society confirms once more that eating a healthy diet and being physically active can help prevent cancer and cancer death. — ACS: Choices for Good Health
Month after month, the research on exercise and cancer shows that moderate activity brings significant benefits, and more vigorous activity provides even more. — Massimo Massarini, M.D., IIEH Medical/Scientific Advisory Council
Whenever a participant tells me how great the program made them feel, the first thing I do is thank them. Then I tell them to go back and tell their doctor the same thing (referring to Cancer WellFit Program). — Julie Main, GM of the Santa Barbara Athletic Club
Exercising for Survival
Chico Sports Club is proud to announce its community cancer and exercise program. We are committed to making a difference in peoples lives, and we are dedicated to your health and fitness.
The implications of cancer patients utilizing an exercise program are astonishing.
Recent findings have shown increased muscular strength and endurance as well as:
- Decreased body fat
- Increased self-esteem and motivation
- Reduced pain, fatigue, and depression.
Program Background
Our program is based on a successful program that started in Santa Barbara. Erik Durak, the Director of Medical Health and Fitness in Santa Barbara, was instrumental in helping develop the Cancer WellFit Program at Santa Barbara Athletic Club. That program has helped hundreds of recovering cancer patients fight their disease and vastly improve their quality of life. On whether exercise is beneficial Durak stated, “Exercise is the ultimate alternative medicine. Studies have shown that women with breast cancer often value exercise above all other therapies.”
