Therapeutic Massage at Chico Sports Club
Benefits of Massage
Massage and bodywork can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Massage and bodywork are also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, and reduce anxiety.
Typical Massage Session
Your massage session will take place in a warm, comfortable, and quiet room, conducted by a properly trained professional. You and the massage therapist will discuss the desired outcome of your session. This will determine which parts of your body require massage. A typical full-body session will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, neck, and shoulders.
Session Durations
The average full-body massage or bodywork session lasts approximately 50 minutes. A 20-minute session only allows time for a partial massage. Many people prefer an 80-minute session for optimal relaxation. Always allow for relaxation time prior to and after the session. Hot tubs, steam baths, and saunas can assist in the relaxation process.
After Massage or Bodywork
Most people feel very relaxed after the session. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains caused by tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of being slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity, which can last for days. Since toxins are released form your soft tissues during a massage, we recommend that you drink plenty of water following your massage.
Types of Bodywork
Craniosacral Therapy
A gentle hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the function of the craniosacral system (the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord).
Deep Tissue
Focuses on the connective tissues using deep, slow movements that help relax muscles and increase flexibility. Helps attain postural alignment and greater range of motion.
Reflexology
Focuses on reflex points on the feet and hands that correspond to each organ, gland, and structure in the body.
Reiki
Stimulates natural immunity, promotes relaxation, and is helpful with both chronic and acute problems. Hands are placed directly on or a few inches above the client’s body in a series of positions corresponding to the body’s chakras and endocrine glands.
Shiatsu/Acupressure
A form of physical therapy that involves pressure on the acupuncture points in order to balance the body’s energy and promote good health.
Sports Massage
Helps athletes prevent sports related injuries by the warm-up and stimulation of muscles. Helps tone muscles, improves blood and lymphatic flow, improves flexibility of muscles, aids in stress reduction, helps prevent muscular adhesions, clears lactic acid build-up.
Structural Integration (a.k.a. Rolfing)
Balances and aligns the body along a natural vertical axis by gradually stretching, lengthening and repositioning the fascia (connective tissue, covering, supporting, and connecting the muscles or internal organs of the body), restoring its normal length and flexibility.
Swedish massage
Systematically stroking, kneading and pressing the soft tissues of the entire body in order to induce a state of total relaxation. This is our most common massage.

What Others Have to Say About Us…
Without Chico Sports Club’s massages, I would not have the ability to move as I do. This is confirmed by my physicians. Thank you for all the care, knowledge, and compassion you bring to me. —Karen Rogers
